INSIDE/OUT

A Self-portrait is a representation of an artist, drawn, painted, or sculpted by the artist. Although self-portraits have been made by artists since the earliest times, it is not until the Early Renaissance in the mid 1400s that artists can be frequently identified depicting themselves as either the main subject, or as important characters in their work. With better and cheaper mirrors, and the advent of the panel portrait, many painters, sculptors and printmakers tried some form of self-portraiture. (Wikipedia)

Inside Out - A series of self-portraits

After joining CorkStop Studios in December 2008, Pacha began a new body of work. Inspired by the ideas of Ken Wilber, Carl Jung and Joseph Campbell, she has set out to explore the genre of self-portraiture by investigating human psychology and incorporating all her skills as a painter, designer, and digital artist, meanwhile carrying the definition of “print” into new unexplored territory.

Her education as a graphic designer has deeply influenced her fine art and is clearly visible in the use of fonts and typefaces throughout her canvases. While taking art and design classes at a local community college, Pacha discovered new methods of combining traditional painting techniques with digital, large-format printing.

“As an artist and graphic designer I’m not only fascinated by the way people communicate with each other, but more so by how we communicate with ourselves – how we draw all our intuitive knowledge from the collective unconscious but learn to distrust it while growing up, only to spend the rest of our lives trying to re-connect with the source. In a sense my paintings document that journey.”
